Many people don't like to talk about abortion. Many other people have said false and mis-leading things about abortion. I am pro-life and here are 10 key truths behind my position:
1. Abortion is NOT a political issue; it's a matter of the most essential of human rights, the right to life. Certain things transcend politics because they deal with issues fundamental to our identity as human beings. Abortion deprives the smallest and most helpless human beings of their most fundamental right, the right to live.
2. Abortions are almost never performed because of rape or incest or to protect the life of the mother. The fact is that over 90% of all abortions are performed simply to eliminate an unwanted child. No one has been raped and no one's life is in danger.
3. Abortion is the leading cause of death in the history of humanity. Every abortion kills an unborn human being, every time. Abortion kills over 1 million Americans every year and millions more around the world. Over 50 million Americans have been legally killed since Roe v. Wade in 1973. More people have been killed by abortion than by every other cause of death combined.
4. Very often, women are pressured into getting abortions they do not really want. "Pro-choice" is a lie. In so many cases, women have no choice but to go through with the abortion their fathers, husbands or boyfriends demand that they get.
5. Most women who have sonograms and can actually see their unborn baby decide against abortion. This proves that abortion is not being performed with proper informed consent in most cases. How can a woman make a choice when she does not really know what she is doing? Planned Parenthood resists sonograms and fights those who try to provide them because they do NOT want women making a really informed and educated choice.
6. Taxpayers ARE being forced to pay for abortion services, regardless of what politicians say. Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in America. Planned Parenthood kills over 300,000 babies per year, performing almost 1/3 of the abortions in America. They receive over $300 million in federal tax dollars every year and millions more from states. They could not operate without these taxpayer dollars.
7. Worldwide, millions of unborn baby girls are killed every year, just because they are girls. The population of women in the world is sharply declining relative to men. 107 men are born for every 100 women. Why? Abortion. In China and India (and other places), men pressure their wives to abort female babies so they can have sons instead. Is THIS "women's rights"? I have a mom, a sister, a wife and a daughter. I love all of them dearly. Abortion is not pro-woman.
8. Before Roe v. Wade, millions of women were not killed or maimed in back-alley abortions. This is one of the biggest lies of the pro-abortion movement. Abortion rights groups have admitted they lied in testimony, fabricating inflated numbers of back-alley abortion-related injuries or deaths.
9. Men benefit more from abortion than women do. I have been told by many people that I don't have the right to speak out an the issue of abortion because I am a man. Frankly, I find that insulting and demeaning, both to men and women. As a former unborn child myself, born after Roe v Wade, I am thankful to be alive and I have the right, even the obligation, to speak up for the defenseless among us. Besides, the truth is that no one benefits from abortion more than men. Men have become more irresponsible and more absent since the legalization of abortion. If a man gets a woman pregnant and she has an abortion, he's off the hook. If not, he can justify abandoning his child by saying that she should have had an abortion. It is no coincidence that as abortion has become legal, single motherhood has risen dramatically.
10. Abortion cheapens life and affects everyone. As life is made ever more disposable, our society loses its core values. As more valuable people are killed, we all suffer the loss. How many great scientists, doctors, engineers, artists, poets, preachers, novelists, etc. have been legally killed in the last 40 years? How many of the problems we are experiencing as a society are due to the fact that we have wantonly killed and killed and killed those we did not want? Is it a coincidence that the areas of our country with the highest abortion rates and the most number of abortion clinics are also the most impoverished and violent? What are we doing to ourselves?
It is time for ALL of us to wake up and stand up. We know it is wrong to kill babies. For far too long, we've listened to lies that justify the barbarity. No one wins when life is thrown in the dumpster. No one.
