Don't Read Your Bible

Here's why you should not read your Bible:

  • IF you are just looking for practical advice on how to lead a happier life, don't read your Bible.
  • IF you are looking for heroic moral examples, don't read your Bible.
  • IF you are looking for a boost to your self-esteem, don't read your Bible.
  • IF you are looking for hidden codes that will reveal secret prophecies about the future, don't read your Bible.
  • IF you are trying to figure out how to be a better person, don't read your Bible.

But IF you are looking for Jesus because you know you need a Savior, you will find HIM in the pages of your Bible, so read . . .

  • Read to see how perfectly soveriegn God is over all of human history, which finds its fulfillment in Christ.
  • Read to see how miserably broken and unreliable human beings are (including you!) and how we can find redemption in Christ.
  • Read to see how every passing political agenda and earthly potentate will pass away and bow their knee before Christ.
  • Read to see how your life is not all about you and how you cannot be a better person until God first saves your from yourself through Christ.
Read prayerfully.  Read expectantly.  Read to see more of Jesus.

Otherwise, don't read your Bible.
